Head of Compliance
Job Description
An international iGaming business is looking for an experienced compliance professional to oversee regulatory responsibilities across multiple markets. Based in Malta, you will manage licence applications, support ongoing operations and ensure the business meets its obligations in each relevant jurisdiction.
You will work closely with regulators, legal advisers and internal teams, providing practical guidance on regulatory requirements and taking ownership of compliance priorities.
Location: Hybrid - Malta
Responsibilities:
As a Head of Compliance, your broad responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Manage gambling licence applications from initial preparation through submission and approval, alongside ongoing licence maintenance.
Translate local regulatory requirements and licence conditions into clear actions for the business.
Act as the principal contact for regulatory authorities and coordinate matters with external legal advisers.
Oversee statutory reporting, ensuring accurate submissions reach gambling regulators, tax authorities and other relevant bodies on time.
Identify compliance weaknesses, coordinate corrective action and escalate significant concerns.
Lead regulatory audits and compliance reviews, including preparation, responses and follow-up actions.
Review gaming products, marketing materials and promotions against applicable requirements.
Take on formal regulatory appointments where required by the business and relevant authorities.
Develop and update internal policies, procedures and controls, including those covering anti-money laundering and responsible gambling.
Work with AML and responsible gambling teams to ensure processes reflect local obligations and support the assessment of complex cases.
Deliver practical compliance guidance and training to employees across the organisation.
Support technical compliance colleagues and other departments with regulatory queries.
Keep senior management informed of regulatory developments, their operational impact and any action required.
Requirements:
At least five years of compliance experience within the gambling industry.
Strong understanding of international gambling regulation, including AML obligations and consumer protection requirements.
Familiarity with gambling operations; knowledge of online poker would be an advantage.
Fluent English, with strong written communication and the confidence to engage with regulators and senior stakeholders.
Sound analytical judgement and the ability to assess risk and recommend practical solutions.
A structured approach to managing competing priorities, regulatory deadlines and detailed documentation.
Confidence working independently and taking ownership of compliance matters.
Ability to explain regulatory requirements clearly to colleagues outside the compliance function.
Strong computer skills and accuracy when handling records, reports and regulatory information.
A proactive approach to learning new markets and adapting compliance processes as requirements evolve.
