Job Description
Our client is seeking an experienced Money Laundering Reporting Officer to oversee its anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing framework.
The successful candidate will ensure compliance with Maltese AML/CFT legislation, FIAU Implementing Procedures, MFSA requirements applicable to Corporate Service Providers and relevant international regulatory standards. The role will involve maintaining effective controls, overseeing client due diligence, investigating suspicious activity and advising senior management on financial crime risks.

Responsibilities:
As an MLRO, your broad responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Act as the designated MLRO and oversee the organisation’s AML/CFT framework and internal controls.
Ensure policies and procedures remain aligned with Maltese legislation, FIAU guidance and MFSA requirements.
Review and approve client onboarding, risk assessments, customer due diligence and enhanced due diligence.
Advise internal teams on complex client structures, risk classifications and compliance matters.
Monitor and investigate unusual or suspicious client activity.
Submit Suspicious Activity Reports and maintain accurate investigation and reporting records.
Maintain the organisation’s business, jurisdiction and sanctions risk assessments.
Act as the main point of contact with the MFSA, FIAU and other regulatory authorities.
Prepare regular AML/CFT reports for senior management and the Board.
Support regulatory inspections, compliance reviews and external audits.
Provide AML/CFT guidance and training to employees.
Monitor relevant regulatory developments and update internal controls where required.
Promote a strong culture of compliance and accountability across the organisation.
Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in law, finance, business or a related field.
Approval or eligibility for approval by the MFSA as an MLRO.
At least five years of experience in an MLRO or senior AML/CFT position.
Experience within corporate services, financial services or another regulated environment.
Strong knowledge of Maltese AML/CFT legislation, FIAU Implementing Procedures and MFSA requirements.
Experience with client onboarding, CDD, EDD, risk assessments and suspicious activity investigations.
Strong analytical, investigative and independent decision-making skills.
Excellent communication and stakeholder-management abilities.
Ability to engage professionally with senior management, Boards and regulatory authorities.
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple regulatory priorities and deadlines.
Familiarity with AML, compliance and Microsoft Office systems.
