Direct Tax Compliance Specialist
Job Description
Our client is seeking an experienced Direct Tax Compliance Specialist to lead and develop its corporate tax service line.
The successful candidate will oversee corporate tax compliance, provide technical advice on complex direct and international tax matters, manage key client relationships, and support the continued growth of the tax function.
The role also includes leading and developing the tax team, improving internal processes, introducing tax technology and automation, and ensuring compliance with Maltese tax legislation and international reporting requirements.

Responsibilities:
As a Direct Tax Compliance Specialist, your broad responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Define and implement the direct tax service line strategy in line with our client’s wider objectives.
Oversee Maltese corporate income tax returns, statutory filings, reporting obligations, and related compliance work.
Provide tax advice on corporate reorganisations, mergers and acquisitions, cross-border investments, and corporate structures.
Advise on transfer pricing policies, documentation, and compliance with OECD principles.
Act as the main tax contact for key clients and provide practical, commercially focused advice.
Monitor developments in Maltese and international tax legislation, including OECD BEPS, Pillar Two, CRS, and FATCA.
Develop and maintain tax risk, governance, compliance, and internal control frameworks.
Improve departmental procedures, reporting processes, and service delivery standards.
Introduce tax technology and automation tools to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Build and maintain long-term client relationships and identify opportunities to expand the services provided.
Collaborate with Accounting, Corporate Administration, and Advisory teams to support cross-selling opportunities.
Lead, mentor, and develop the tax team, including performance management, resource planning, and succession planning.
Support training, professional development, and knowledge-sharing across the department.
Contribute to client presentations, technical briefings, and thought-leadership content.
Requirements:
Degree in Accountancy, Law, Taxation, or an equivalent professional qualification.
Extensive experience in direct tax compliance, advisory, and planning within a professional or financial services environment.
Strong knowledge of Maltese corporate tax legislation and international tax frameworks.
Experience advising on corporate structuring, cross-border transactions, transfer pricing, and regulatory reporting.
Proven experience managing client portfolios and complex tax engagements.
Strong leadership and people-management experience.
Commercial mindset with the ability to identify and develop new business opportunities.
Excellent client relationship, communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and engagements.
High level of integrity, professional judgement, and discretion.
