Job Description
Our client is seeking an ambitious, credible and commercially aware Editor to help shape a new business-focused media platform in Malta. This is a defining role for a recognised local journalist, editor, business writer or media professional who understands Malta’s business landscape and wants to help build a respected voice within the local business community.
The Editor will be responsible for defining the platform’s editorial voice, content standards and publishing output, working across areas such as business, finance, technology, real estate, iGaming, hospitality, leadership, lifestyle and events. They will write, edit, curate, research, coordinate and contribute strategically to the development of the platform, using modern editorial tools to monitor sources, identify stories, and produce sharp, original content that delivers value to Malta’s business audience.
As this is a start-up media environment, the role requires someone hands-on, practical, flexible, and comfortable doing a bit of everything in the early stages. The ideal candidate will bring strong editorial judgement, curiosity, credibility, and the hunger to help shape a platform with a clear long-term roadmap.
For the time being, this role is on a Part-Time or Freelance basis with a clear path to Full-Time
Location: On-site – Malta
Responsibilities:
As an Editor, your broad responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Write original articles, features, interviews, opinion pieces, analysis, and business-focused content across multiple categories.
Monitor relevant local and international sources using modern editorial, research, and content tools.
Curate business-relevant stories and developments, ensuring they are rewritten, reframed, and developed into original content.
Maintain high editorial standards across accuracy, tone, structure, relevance, and authority.
Help shape the editorial calendar and identify the stories that matter to Malta’s business community.
Edit and refine content produced by contributors, writers, or AI-assisted editorial workflows.
Ensure content is commercially aware while maintaining editorial credibility.
Develop strong relationships with business leaders, entrepreneurs, industry figures, institutions, and contributors.
Identify interview opportunities, expert commentary, and thought leadership pieces.
Support the creation of content formats beyond articles, including newsletters, social media posts, short-form editorial scripts, and event-related content.
Contribute to the growth of a trusted business media platform within Malta’s commercial ecosystem.
Requirements:
A strong background in journalism, editorial work, business writing, media, or content leadership.
A recognised presence or reputation within Malta’s media, business, or professional community.
Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
A strong understanding of Malta’s business, economic, political, and commercial environment.
The ability to work confidently across different business sectors.
Comfort using modern tools, including AI-assisted research, content monitoring, source tracking, and digital publishing systems.
A sharp eye for what makes a story relevant, valuable, and timely.
Strong editorial judgement and the ability to distinguish between noise and meaningful business insight.
A start-up mindset, with the ability to work independently, move quickly, and take ownership.
The ambition to help build a platform, shape its voice, and leave a visible mark on its growth.
