Finance Manager - Portuguese accounting standards
Job Description
Our client is currently looking to hire a Finance Manager with strong exposure to Portuguese accounting standards to support their growing operations.
This role will take ownership of the local accounting function, ensuring compliance with Portuguese GAAP while supporting wider group reporting and finance operations.
Location: Hybrid – Gzira
Responsibilities:
As a job title, your broad responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Take ownership of the full accounting cycle for the Portuguese entity, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and in line with local accounting standards
Manage month end and year end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations
Prepare statutory financial statements under Portuguese GAAP and ensure all local reporting obligations are met within required deadlines
Coordinate and manage external audits, acting as the main point of contact for auditors and ensuring all supporting documentation is accurate and available
Oversee day to day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger activities
Ensure compliance with local regulations by liaising with tax advisors, external accountants and relevant authorities on accounting and reporting matters
Support group reporting by aligning local financials with group standards, timelines and consolidation requirements
Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes, providing financial insights and supporting business decision making
Review and improve existing financial processes and internal controls to ensure efficiency, scalability and accuracy
Collaborate with internal stakeholders across finance, legal and operations to ensure smooth financial management and alignment
Provide guidance on accounting implications of business activities, particularly in areas where accounting and tax intersect
Requirements:
Strong experience in accounting, with solid exposure to Portuguese accounting standards
Proven track record in managing the full accounting cycle and financial reporting
Experience working in a fast paced, international environment, ideally within tech, digital or similar industries
Comfortable liaising with auditors, external advisors and local authorities
Good understanding of how accounting and tax intersect, particularly within the Portuguese framework
Hands on approach with the ability to operate both independently and within a wider finance team
Strong communication skills, able to work cross functionally with non finance stakeholders
Fluency in English
