Senior Accountant
Job Description
Our client, operating in the iGaming industry, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their growing team in Malta. The primary focus of this role is overseeing daily accounting operations, managing the month-end closing process, ensuring compliance with local and international accounting standards (IFRS), and handling all Maltese tax and VAT requirements. The Senior Accountant will report to the Head of Finance and play a key part in maintaining financial accuracy and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities:
As a Senior Accountant, your broad responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Accounting and Reporting
• Lead the timely and accurate month-end and year-end closing processes
• Prepare monthly and annual management reports in line with IFRS
• Manage the chart of accounts and ensure correct classification of financial transactions
• Oversee intercompany reconciliations and all general ledger activities
• Review and reconcile complex balance sheet items including fixed assets, accruals and prepayments
Compliance and Tax Management
• Ensure full compliance with Maltese VAT and Corporate Tax regulations
• Manage the preparation and submission of statutory returns
• Support external audits by providing documentation and explanations
• Stay updated on IFRS developments and local regulatory changes
• Ensure correct documentation for foreign supplier transactions including those requiring specific compliance checks
System Management and Process Improvement
• Maintain and optimise the company’s ERP system to ensure data integrity
• Identify opportunities for automation and process improvements
• Ensure all financial data is securely archived and audit-ready
• Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff
• Contribute to the development of technical skills within the team
Requirements:
• Strong practical knowledge of IFRS
• Solid understanding of Maltese VAT, corporate tax and related regulations
• Experience with a recognised ERP system (experience with Sage X3 is an advantage)
• Strong Excel skills
• Excellent analytical and problem solving abilities
• High attention to detail
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
• Clear communication skills and the ability to explain complex financial matters
• Ability to work both independently and within a team
