Head of Accounting
Job Description
Our client is seeking a Head of Accounting to manage the full accounting cycle and maintain the General Ledger. The role ensures accurate and timely recording of financial transactions, delivering a fully reconciled trial balance to the Director of Finance.
This is a hands-on leadership role, operating with a high degree of autonomy and overseeing both transactional processes and compliance.

Responsibilities:
As a Head of Accounting, your broad responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Maintain full ownership of the general ledger, ensuring all entries, accruals and prepayments are accurately recorded, reviewed and reconciled on an ongoing basis.
Manage the month end close process from start to finish, ensuring deadlines are met and all balance sheet positions are properly reconciled and supported.
Act as the main contact for external auditors, coordinating requests, preparing supporting schedules and ensuring all required documentation is readily available throughout the audit cycle.
Oversee day to day accounts payable and receivable activities, ensuring smooth processing, strong cash flow visibility and effective management of supplier and client relationships.
Handle VAT submissions and other regulatory reporting obligations across relevant jurisdictions, ensuring accuracy and timely filing in line with local requirements.
Continuously review internal processes, identifying areas for improvement and implementing more efficient workflows, controls or automation where appropriate.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
Fully qualified Accountant (ACCA, MIA, or equivalent)
Minimum 10 years’ experience in a senior accounting role
Big 4 background – highly advantageous
Experience in multi-currency environments
Strong intercompany reconciliation experience
iGaming or online advertising experience is an advantage
Proven people management experience
Advanced Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, complex formulas)
Strong knowledge of IFRS
Solid understanding of Maltese VAT and tax legislation
Experience with ERP systems and accounting software
